VI ECPD REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON HEALTH ECONOMICS
with the main topic
Allocation of SCARCE Resources in Health Care -
THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF THE ACTION AGAINST ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE
(Opatija - Hotel “Milenij“, 27-28 September 2019)
Considering an increasingly important role of health economics in the decision-making process, as well as still inadequately developed resources in this multidisciplinary field in the health systems of South East Europe, the European Center for Peace and Development UN University for Peace has initiated a series of regional conferences, round tables and meetings for key decision makers in the countries across the Region, aiming to improve and strengthen capacities in this field. In this regard, we have the pleasure to invite you to take part in the Sixth ECPD Regional Conference on Health Economics.
The conference is internationally and nationally accredited (by the Health Council of Serbia the Conference is accredited with 14 points for lecturers and 7 points for participants. The accreditation number is А-1-2180/19).
The conference continues to study relevant topics in the field of health care economics and extends the tradition of gathering health providers, managers and other decision makers in health care systems from the region of South-East and Central Europe. The topic of this year is the allocation of scarce resources in health care with referral to antimicrobial resistance. Demands for all aspects of health care continue to exceed available resources. Policy makers need to make important decisions on the use of public funds – as required for particular disease areas, which population categories, and with which interventions. The problem is that decisions on prioritizing health care needs are complex and multidimensional, and resources may not be used to an optimal extent.
One of the most visible health problems in which resources may be spent and/or saved efficiently is antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The high variability in the frequency of AMR in European countries and consequent different level of spending suggests that there are possibilities for improvement in all the countries and lessons to be shared between them.
The primary objective of this meeting is to bring together clinicians, health managers and health politicians responsible for resource allocation in health care. We hope the presentations at the meeting will provide an up-to date information on how to move from achieving an isolated success and best practices in a few hospitals, regions or countries to the good standard practices within and between countries.
The Conference will be co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Dušan Keber, Professor of Internal Medicine and an international consultant (former Minister of Health of Slovenia), Prof. Dr. Ana Stavljenić-Rukavina, Vice-Rector of Libertas International University (former Minister of Health of Croatia) and Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dirk Henke, long-standing Head of Department of Public Finance and Health Economics, Technical University in Berlin.
