It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the VII ECPD International Summer School of Cardiovascular Disease (hereinafter referred to as: School).

The five-day program will focus on the latest research, technological advances and case study review as well as discussion on the guidelines and latest treatment options regarding the prevention, early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases. The School is intended for primary care doctors and specialists (cardiologists, endocrinologists, internists, pediatricians, etc.).
Co-Directors of the School are Prof. Dr. Nathan Wong, University of California, Irvine, USA and Academician Prof. Dr. Miodrag Ostojić, SANU, Belgrade. Secretary General of the School is Prof. Dr. Duško Vulić, School of Medicine, University of Banja Luka.

Despite the guidelines for the treatment of acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and prevention of cardiovascular disease, many patients, especially in the South Eastern European region remain inadequately treated for risk factors, acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, or atrial fibrillation and adherence to treatments is not optimal. Recent surveys from EUROSPIRE III and EUROASPIRE IV show that many persons with pre-existing coronary artery disease are not on the recommended therapies and there are significant differences in treatment patterns between regions, even within a limited geographic region such as the South Eastern European region. Data often show that while treatment of individual risk factors may be adequate, combined treatment and goal attainment of multiple risk factors, such as LDL-C, blood pressure and A1c levels together in those with diabetes is often insufficient, requiring implementation of systematic efforts addressed to all required risk factors both in primary and in secondary prevention.
